She is the game
and this dark hunter
wants her alone,
savors her unease

and thrills to the
slow, steady stalk
as she edges closer
into wildness.

She never knows
when he will choose
to end this.

She is being pursued,
a vigilant trail.

He follows

her easy, sleek movements,
her fogged breath,
her small tracks,
her musky scent,
her eyes flashing,
now and again
in the dimness.

There will be chase
when he is ready
to let her know
she has been spotted

and marked

and she will be taken down
with a full, primal scream,
snared and entangled
in his wrangling, powerful

and loving

embrace.
