I don't live to be sober,
but I sobered up to live.
I don't live to be happy,
but I'm happy enough to live.
I don't live to eat,
but I eat enough to live.
I don't live for others,
but I let others live.
I don't live for honors,
for honors do not live.
I don't live for glory;
I don't have a life to give.
I don't live to accomplish;
to accomplish what for who?
In truth, though I am the agent,
I know not what I do.
Like an arrow from an archer,
I whistle through this world:
sometimes happy,
sometimes lustful,
sometimes thoughtful,
sometimes christian,
sometimes bloody,
but never naive enough to think...
that whether I'm on target...
is really up to me.
