I am from the land of the buttes
And from the city of concrete steel giants
I am from the normalcy of rush hour traffic
And from Saint Mathew

I’m from peach orchards and irrigation ditches
From stale cigarette smoke
And late night television
I’m from the ivy plants
From twisted tall oaks

I’m from the “Your mother is snoring”
And the “Not in the house”
I’m from burnt peanut butter cookies
And chicken on rice
I’m from where the lamb saves
And the serpent ruins

I’m from fields and puddles
And busy streets

I am from these moments.
