Looking beyond the weight of emptiness
                        and visions of alluring indiscretion
Looking beyond the unwanted
                        reality of our commitments
Only looking deeply into the tenderness
                        of your sensuous smile

        I am left to behold

the ease with which you've captured
the sould of my imagination
                with all the poetic beauty
of J. Alfred Pruforock's Love Song

I am left to admire

the elegance with which you glide
in and out of my days
with all the delicancey of the second movement
                                of a Beethoven concerto

I am left to discern

the grace with which you interrupt
the measure of my dull routine
with a regularity that would suggest an intimacy
                                you are careful to avoid

And as I am left to reflect
the irresolution of another kiss
and other unlikely romantic possibilities
beyond the realm of your reality

                I cant help but ask
                        If we weren't just friends,
                        What might we be?

A question that hangs suspended
                        by your sudden departure
compelling me to just say goodbye
                        and perhaps relinquish

                                        muses of untattainable love
