I Call Upon The People

The rain, on us in sheets,
The wind, carry our souls afar.
If it wasn't for the heartfelt thanks,
We'd never get this far.

May God help the fallen,
May Jesus rise the dead.
But if somebody bothered to tell them,
They'd certainly make amends.

Can you imagine the sorrow,
Can you imagine the pain.
To keep your heart shallow,
Because you're in vain.

So I call upon the people,
So I call upon the mass.
If we were all to die like this,
What reason do you have?

"Because you're in vain."

What does that mean? It sounds like you're saying everyone is worthless. "Call upon the mass" I don't think you can 'call upon the mass of people' within the English language. Maybe I'm mistaken.
