I have known the beauty of God’s new day
And I have known the fear of a child in the night
I have known the joy of my daughter at play
And I have known the terror in a soldier’s fight
I have known the pleasure of my lover’s bed
And I have known warriors that breathed their last
I have known completion, when my lover I wed
And I have known the silence of a battle that’s past
I have known much of life, and I know this is true
I understand it much better since I have known you
