I heard the cuckoo sing today.
Singing with all its might.
Probably two fields away.
And a little to the right.

Early summer is with us now.
The rape in full bloom, odour so sweet.
Flowers so yellow.
Lifts my soul from being mellow.

A red kite was also in the sky.
His prey yet to spy.
I crane my neck to no effect.
Who is watching who?

My dog not on a leash
His spirit,it runs free.
Stopping occasionally, looking back.
Just to check on me.

I move futher along the country track.
The sun now beating on my back.
Butterflies and bees, the pollen they seek.
The hedgrows so alive, they almost speak.

Is this how heaven is meant to be.
In the land of milk and honey.
If it is, then take me away.
I heard the cuckoo sing today.

Welcome to Literotica

very nice poem, but i

agree it could benefit from

a constant rhyme scheme.

Keep writing and submitting.

Thanks.

This good be much better if you kept to a constant rhyme scheme.
