I Never Knew...

I never knew how you felt;
In my world you did not exist.
I was to obey the popular group's strict rule
That always robs us of our youth.
I was young and stupid; trying to be cool.

I never knew how bad it hurt
When I snubbed you so.
I was caught up intheir cruel way;
The teasing and abuse
That always made up your day.

I never knew how you felt
When we treated you like dirt.
Your self-esteem was so low.
But you always walked away with your head held high,
Never letting your true feelings show.

I never knew what I could do;
Just wanting to play the sheep.
I needed to get away from them some how.
I asked if I could be your friend,
And you said you needed a pal.

Now I know that I can never take away your pain.
It's to late to make a difference;
Never a friendship between me and you.
I stand alone at your grave, wanting to shout,
"No one could ever say I never knew!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I dedicate this to Diana and Gabe who left this world before their work here was done. I hope to see you both on The Other Side.
very painful
and nicely written. it felt so honest and real, and left me searching my own heart, we all have moments in our memories and although they can never be changed then, we can change now. I believe this poem will help people touch those memories.. it did for me. thank you for that.
