I took a drive today
Down the back roads of my youth

The memories vivid and strong
Yet everything has changed

Those dirt roads I once terrorized
Reckless abandon I would drive

Needing to be a man
Racing from my youth

Driving fast and living carefree
Nothing matters but tomorrow

The attitude of youth
A boy craving to be a man

I drove those roads today
Driving slow wishing to relive

If only I could go back
To the days I tried to escape

If I could drive those roads again
I'd drive slower and enjoy the view

I'd live each day as it came
For each day is but a moment

In the blink of an eye it passes
Never to be lived again

Those dirt roads I remember
Have now all been paved
