I wish I could sing,
That ice would melt with but one note from my mouth,
That with a single sound,
I could bring a tear to the uncaring eyes,
That look at me now,
With contempt.

I wish I could fly,
That my angel wings would carry me far away,
So that I could flee,
From the ones who try to bring me down,
They took their love,
And left.

But now, now they have gone,
I am left with you,
Heartbroken, vulnerable you.

I wish I could speak,
That caring words would spring, unbidden from my lips,
That with one word,
I could take the pain away from you,
And you would be happy,
Forever.

But I cannot sing,
My wings were lost long ago,
And all I can do is stare,
And say I'm sorry.
