If I had you forever as my own,
To wake up and find yellow weeds had grown
Were once flaxen fields waved neat and clean
Or sweet winds now turned sour, foul, and mean.
That the stars faded in the short sweet night
Now dark and brooding and with far less light.
In closing my eyes for a brief night’s rest
I have missed a change, not for the best.
To know that in the blessed waking hour
I will not be overcome by the pow’r
Of an angel losing some of her shine
But knowing that she is indeed all mine.
Could it be that the soft song of today
May once turn into harsh words in some way?
Could the warm touch of my hand turn to cold?
I fear it could, if I may be so bold.
A kiss, a smile, are these short lived joys?
Tossed aside, forgotten. Outgrown toys.
Do not think me foolish to be so blind
Love grows from the heart but dwells in the mind.
I will not fear the change I see in you
Because I know my love to be most true.
Found perfect in you, returned to me
To last, for good, worse, for eternity.
