If Love...

If love were a feeling
It would pass through a heart
Like wind through the trees
Like a river through the hills
But love is not a feeling
It is a revelation
Love is not a changing season
It is a rock
It is constant; unwavering.
We will always feel love
Yet love might not always
Be pointed in one direction.
Sometimes it moves from
Object to object like the
Hands of a clock
Always moving from
Minute to minute; hour to hour.

If love were a game
We'd all be pieces
On the grand chessboard of the heart.
Some would be pawns to carry out
Cupid's bidding
Some kings and queens
To rule in each other's hearts.
Others would be bishops and rooks
To place their love in the
Faith of gods unseen.
Then some, Knights,
Warriors who fight for love's sake
Knowing full well that
The act of love may lead
To chaos in the heart.
But love is not a game
It is real; and there
Are real winners and real
Losers. Tears are very
Real and hearts are very
Fragile.

If love were a song
Then each note would rise
Up from the depths of our
Souls to mingle together in
Some sweet melody then
Fall back down into one
Long after thought.
But love is not a song
For no melody could ever
Capture the conflicting
Sweetness and melancholy
That is love.
No combination of chords
Could adequately portray
The ring of heart bells.

If love were a painting
Every brush stroke would
Bear witness to genius
Every color would be a
Rainbow's perfection.
The canvas would give
Birth to beauty,
But love is not a painting
Love is so much more than
A work of art.
The shades of love can not be
Confined in a pallet
Of colors for love's colors
Are as endless as the
Stars in the sky.

An interesting choice of metaphors

Used to describe love's possibilities.
