im on the road to ruidoso
inside my air-cooled comfort zone
rolling on and on into the sun

its a boiling hot panhandle day
and i am being blown away
like a west texas tumbleweed

stopped once in abilene but only
long enough to make a phone call
and then decided to make a day of it

veered north outside sweetwater to post
im not there thirty seconds before
i spy three young hotties

wild fillies of the texas high plains
restless against the tethers
of this one horse town

i should have said to each of them
hey you want to go to ruidoso
and i bet you they all would have come

but instead i turned west on highway 82
and now my sights are set on roswell
where stranger things have happened.
