Lie here in the heat,
and just imagine
you are here,
one moment further away
than my arm's reach -
sprawled in the dark,
I wake to wanting you,
to tangle myself in your sleep
and fall back into night -
instead I lie here in the heat,
sleepless, and even my imagination knows
you are not here.

~~

An imagination will carry you only so far — if your lover's not there, your lover's not there; the way reality intrudes sometimes really sucks.

It's always a special moment...

when sleeping with a lover and waking during the night... well done, I enjoyed your poem.
