Rosy light's deceptive. Though not quite
A beauty, in her face there lay the core
Of tenderness in sadness, and the bright
Reflections as those wistful eyes implore
You to be gentle – not like all before
That merely handled merchandise to square
The hurt of humiliation that she bore
Unseen, unless fatigue brought out despair.
Fair-skinned and pretty, with her shoulders bare,
Hunched on the bed – enough to make you bleed:
That staring look should never have been there,
She not so occupied, out of sheer need –
To stay unloved and hopeless, and despised
By those that use her, where she should be prized.

Bittersweet!

I hear the tender desire to makes things right for this sad woman, to give her back some of what she has lost by the harsh experiences of her life that now make her cower and plead. A powerful poem about abuse and its effects!
