What does it matter how we look?
Beauty is only skin deep
Or so I’m told
So why do we place importance on things like skin colour?

Tall, short, black, white, large or small?
Why do we care?
Looks fade with time
So why are they important?

Intelligence isn’t measured by prettiness
Why can’t some people understand this?
Be proud of who you are
Not how you look

Idealistic

Sadly in this world, our looks DO matter to most people. If you're old/overweight/tall/have an accent you will be treated differently. I try not to discriminate, but its part of life, certainly the less serious bits of it, and will never go. Nice poem though.

Sadly, true.

Some people just will never understand and can only perpetuate a distorted view of what's important. Nicely done. Thank you. LJ

Very familiar.

I know what you mean about society's fixation and criticism towards appearances. It's unfortunate but true.

Elsie, I do understand

what you're saying. And it has been said many times before. If you don't mind a suggestion, I would like to make one. I think if you make this poem more personal (talk about injustices you personally know about) it would make a more powerful poem. In other words, describe some scene where you, or someone close to you, has been judged by their looks.

Keep writing!
