I went searching
         through your medicine cabinet
in hopes of finding a spare toothbrush.
(If I had known last night
where I would be today
         I'd brought my own.)

I learned more about you
         from what I found there.
Don't be embarrassed,
         it was fun!

Finding nail clippers
a half tube of suntan oil,
a large bottle of aspirin,
a razor
        pink of color... slightly used,
two cotton balls,
        one dirty.

A box of Alka Seltzer
a compact --- empty
        except for the mirror;
three safety pins... a button--- blue.
Used emery board... make up.
Oh, the make up!
Do people really color their lips
                               purple...
and their eyes orange and yellow?

There was no toothbrush by the way.
       (I borrowed yours.)

I hope I don't ever force
       you into your medicine cabinet.
I wouldn't want to know
you had to have your aspirin or Alka Seltzer,
                               because of me.

Oh, and just where do you
       stand on mouthwash?
