It haunts my dreams

At pains to write upon this page
of all the acts that went before
and forcing memories to rise,
my heart contracts to miss a beat
I must be brave and face it yet.

Though many winters, summers too,
have passed since last I saw your face
engraved upon my mind is still
the agony, it haunts my dreams.

Droplets from the river's race
no longer brown, spun crystal stars
and looking up I saw the sky
that lowered blankets to the bed.
I didn't cry, there was no need,
the world was weeping in my stead.
