the prophet sat alone
a shadow in the dark
silently, I sat before him waiting

it's all so easy, he said looking down
eyes clear with wisdom
gained from decades of solitude

then why don't I know love
I cried in protest to him
when I want it so much

perhaps you want it
but don't earn it
or perhaps you waste it

how can that be
for I seek it constantly
yet it eludes me while it finds others

ah, says he
it's not in the finding
it's in the choosing

love may be easily found if given
but if the one loved
does not love in return it is lost

treat your love as a prize
from your soul and heart
and don't squander it on fools

but I love such a sweet fool
yet I know my love will find a way
to return wrapped in her love

then you are the fool
for believing that love is magic
and overcomes all

for love is an emotion
that magnifies when fed
by equal love and care

not a potion or conjurer's trick
that makes others comply
and heals wounded hearts

he turned and slumped down
and my time for questions was past
but I still want love, I whimpered
