Young shoot, fresh and green
Tender, newly sprouted
Stalk still gentle, unhardened
By time yet untouched, unscarred
Seasons lie ahead, seasons to bloom,
     Seasons to flourish
     Potential yet unfolded
Thorns will grow in time
Protecting the tenderness within
The beauty exposed, roses bloom
Like the flush of lover's cheeks
One day to be picked, to be taken
By admiring fancy, taken by love
Not yet, upon my sill, upon my table,
Upon my mind as I contemplate
The beauty that graces my world with
Its presence filling space, sweet scent
     Like tinkling laugher
     Joyous sound of a cherub
Descended upon my home, upon my hearth
     Upon my heart
Filling my eyes, filling my space,
More beautiful with each passing day
Jade-green stem, graceful and long
