Saturday morning, and the army is on the move.
Promenading up and down the sidewalks, the roadsides,
Dark alleys where the holiest fear to tread.
Going from door to door, armed with satchels
Of information, recipes for salvation,
The army of Jehovah.

They propose a heaven you can comprehend.
(You can almost envision picking out curtains!)
A male-model Jesus, more man than God, smiles
With perfect teeth and decidely Anglo aspect.
(Though other ethnicities are welcome too)
Brightly colored pictures of Paradise
With multi-cultural barbecues.

Every Scripture explained, the whole thing falls
Together like a jig-saw puzzle. Though sometimes
They trim the pieces to make them fit.
Though just a bit, it's known as reasoning.
Besides, what's a nip there and a tuck here,
As long as the motive is sincere?

They stand, in groups of two or three, outside
Your door. And though they may seem to you obsessed,
They're as earnest in belief as the Pope himself,
Though not as excitingly dressed.
But for a small donation, just to cover printing costs,
You can read about salvation, leather-bound and gold-embossed.
