the innocence of us,
believing for the first time those mawkish trvialities,
they were carved in our hearts
and brought down from the mount.

when touching was involuntary,
not clutching at straw salvation,
a song can make me smell
lilac buds,jean nate,and your excitement.

all the beauty I have seen since,
whether real or intangible,
fails to conquer
you at 16 in a white wide brimmed hat,
framed by sunset
and apple blossoms.
