Listen to the sounds
               of the sea
                       at night.
The breakers
            crashing against the rocks
                               with a gentle fury.
The spraying mist
            dampening your face.
The quiet retreat
            of the departing foam.

Have you ever wondered
               where the waves go?

Do they drift down the beach to see
               the lovers walking together...
or do they slip down under the pier
to spy on the old man
                               sitting there?
