Let's put it on a shelf
And forget about it
Move on past
The wake, the flotsam,
The shit dredged up by
its passing
And pretend it's done and over.

Let's pretend it doesn't matter
That it no longer works like
It should and is uglier
Now than before.

Let's just try and forget
The sound it made
In the morning
When the rose
And then
Fell.

The colors,
The way the light
Reflected.

The way
It failed
When it was needed
Most.

It's for the best,
I swear to you,
To just let it go,
Let it drift out
On the wind.

Like smoke
Or something else beautiful
In the right context,

But also easily forgotten.
