I think you'll agree I don't write poetry so much as doggerel verse.
My Christmas gift to my wife in 2011 was the story just published.
So now you get to Christmas Eve;
No present will appear,
Will disappointment rear its head ?
Provoke a little tear?
It's bad enough having a cold
Without husband's neglect,
It's not much fun on Christmas Day
When expectation's wrecked.
For in past years a gift appeared
Sometimes a little risqué
Not something you could take downstairs
And to the kids display.
This year, is there no new surprise
when we both come to bed?
Nothing here to cheer the heart
Nothing to tax the head?
I'd better rectify this dearth
And hope your spirits lift
Look at your e-mail and you'll find
From me a little gift.
And not just for Christmas --
