Just One More Day

byWintermyst56©

To my readers: I had a friend named Brad, he was like a ray of sunshine. He had beautiful blue eyes and dimples in both cheeks and when he smiled it was like a ray of sunshine, it made him glow and made you feel warm all over. Tragically, he died at the age of 23 from cancer. He was also married to another friend of mine, they loved each other to the very core of their beings, they were soul mates. When he died, his wife was pregnant with their first child. Brad and I sometimes talked of him dying. I want to share one of those conversations with you with a poem I have written about it. For you dear Brad, the world got a little colder and darker when you left.

Just One More Day

I want to live just one more day
Hold my wife close to my chest and say
I love you with all my heart
I don't want to die I want to stay

Let me live just one more day
To feel the rain upon my face
Bask in the warmth of the suns sweet embrace
Please God! Just let me stay

I will miss watching the sun set
At the beginning of night
Watching the stars twinkle
From their soft glowing light

I want to hold my baby son in my arms
Kiss and comfort him
Keep him from harm
Please let me live just one more day
Please God don't take me away

I love my wife with all of my heart
I can't imagine us being apart
I want to feel her breath on my chest
To lay her head upon and rest

Please God, Just One More Day!

Brad lost his fight with cancer, and sadly his son died shortly after his father before he was born. His umbilical cord wrapped around his neck. Jane, Brad's wifes' only solace, was knowing her son and his father were forever together in heaven.
