I walk alone
With my back to the wall
My shadow, I disown
Along the street it does crawl
Ducking into the alleyways
This blackened figure preys
On the flaming trashcan bums
And stilletoed whores
Strike a match
Light a cigarette
And in the flash I can see
This creature of the night glaring back at me
From behind window panes
Doorways and every unlit street corner
As a wicked wind unfurls through town
Pausing under a storefront awning
Wishing the moon up above
Was the sun now dawning
Without a clue as to where I'm off to
What better way is there, I ask
To leave what's behind me
In the past?
What better way is there?
Leaving my shadow in the dark
