Gather over-due library books
road-cup strong black coffee
coat hat gloves
ten below dusting of new snow
scrape windows
unplug block heater
turn on defroster and radio,
Drive with one hand
drink coffee before it chills
morning talk show noise
studded snow tires sound
on icy roads,
Drop books at library drive through
some I read
some I looked at
some I did not open,
Car almost warm
up the hill around the corner
park in your driveway
up stairs two steps at a time
before the bell finishes ringing
door opens you look at me,
Some hours days weeks later
you pull on Levi’s
green Led Zeppelin tee-shirt,
At the library
you sci-fi
me poetry
each a stack of books
some to read
some to look at
some to not open,
Later Led Zeppelin green on the floor
Levi’s still on
you press against me
hands on Levi buttons
tongue in my ear
warm breath down my neck
both stacks of books
unopened on the floor,
