For every day that breaks
I wonder where is my amazing grace
Where is the part of me that has my faith
because right now my fate
is to retrace every move I ever made
and each word that I said
my prayers were mumbled in vain
and birthed from pain
and here it is again
this vain pain
again and again
no rhyme or reason
just time and season
and I’ll rewrite the testaments
as a testament
to my life.
upon my arrival
we’ll speak of survival
while I rewrite these words and spit verses from the bible
my need is primal
and my marks are tribal
and these pages will
illustrate
my penchant for surviving
I don’t write to live
I live to write
and pretty words without meaning
only translate to fancy talk
this time I’m not in it for the dinero
pero mucho sincero.
because I finally know why the caged bird sings

of such pretty things

It’s the way she soars

and so I sing not because I’m happy

but because it’s my legacy
and maybe his eye is on the sparrow
or maybe the sparrow is me
and every time I sing my lyrical song
I sing it to be free
because I take this legacy so seriously
