Letters

byMagnetron©

Sometimes it makes it everything better
To sit down at the kitchen table
And write you a letter

My how the time does fly when we're apart
Although it seems like it was just last week
When I resolved to give you my heart

The calendar tells of a different tale
Of weeks and months and years gone by
Since our paths merged into a single trail

My eyes well up with tears over the lost days
Leaving me hurting inside almost all of the time
Since we went our individual ways

Struggling to get the words onto the page
I have difficultly staying within the lines
When these fingers tremble with rage

Please, don't take my words the wrong way
My anger isn't intended for you
But rather at the lack of what I have to say

I've penned everything needed to be said
Again and again throughout these last few years
There's really nothing new here to be read

Just how my week has gone and such and such
Another piece of me I wish to give to you
It's the closest thing to feeling your touch

And now I've said too much

That you won't ever hear

Sign my name before gingerly folding the page
Slip it into the envelope and lick the seal
Address it to the one I miss so dearly
And hold it against my heart
To feel

Feel you against me as though you were real

Even though you're no longer here

Drag myself from the table to the bedroom closet
Find the shoebox and remove the lid
Revealing the stack of letters
And a package or two
Because I just can't seem to bid
Farewell to you,

My Dear
