– TO MOONLIGHT SONATA
In the midst of this
Notes of someone’s eulogy
Dead now where he once was blind
But boy could he play…
And I listen
To the musical erasers
Brush my soul
Bye bye fight in the eighth grade
Bye bye unwanted needle
Bye bye broken jaw
Broken nose
Dead best friends
Embarrassment in front of
The boss
Being fired
Seven times…
C sharp minor and bye bye
Wrong choices
Every one of them
I bleed them now
On the storm he set
To FACE
And EGBDF
So beautifully…
Poignantly
Perfectly.
Bye bye.
- Heather Killough-Walden
A decade ago, when I was in my early twenties, my best friend in high school died, leaving a small child. Reading this poem, I was right back there and I felt a tear come to my eyes. Beautiful and poignant.
I loved your phrase "musical erasers". There are few pieces of music into which I can fully escape and Moonlight Sonata is one of those. Well said.
