A lie is a pretty thing,
Built on eloquence, prose and desire.
The truth is often ugly,
Being coarse, simple, and dire.

A lie is quickly made,
Requiring only some wit and knowledge.
The truth is told with labor,
Always needed strength and courage.

Lies are easily reproduced,
And build one atop the other.
Truths stand all alone,
Bearing no kin or brothers.

It may be asked, when placed side by side,
Which of the two is advised?
I say, in a pinch, tell the truth,
And never think otherwise.

You see, when lie all you do,
Is say what others want to hear.
When you tell the truth all you do,
Is make others face what they fear.
