You never leave me alone for long, my love.
Just when I learn the numbers,
and soft ground molds the contours of my body,
just when I find comfort in the clouds that hover
motionless above me you come find me again,
try to sew on new wings
and wait for the updraft.
Tonight you speak of your plans to drop
sandbag memories over the edge of the basket
leave it all below us
I almost have faith in escape
but we know it is impossible
because we had our chance
we lived it and still did not believe
there was something greater than this.
Lover, I will never leave this place.
Kindly sell your feathers elsewhere.
