Long Island Rail Road
5:33: Jamaica to Penn Station
meet me at the diner
100th & Broadway,

Europe yesterday
South later today
Penn Station to the #2
sullen morning workers,

Exit 96th Street
four blocks north
the side booth
familiar smile, NYU sweats,

We kiss and sit down
same side of the booth
coffee, eggs and hash
hip to hip, hippie to hippie,

Long ago, college kids
we’d meet for drinks and
usually sex
awkward, eager, lovely sex

Finish our eggs, second cups of coffee
down to 93rd, over to Amsterdam
up the freight elevator, unlock the door
inside we kiss again, excited again,

Nothing under the sweats
Levi’s, shirt and boxers off
two kids, as eager as we were
forty years before,
