want to feed you
rum cake in the morning
insist you stay home

we page through
picture magazines
as if in a waiting room
unable to do anything
but wait
and turn

sun leather lines
west side of the mountain
gentle voice
soothing
while we listen
for names to be called

into the back

sawdust and dish soap
stay in their corner
we will stay in ours

this time does not count
we are not even supposed to be here
trespassers of the daytime work week

count me in.

If this is...

about taking a day off from work and not knowing what to do

with it I understand. If it's not about playing hooky

it still flows well. I love it, sandspike
