I dreamed of you last night.
It was a nice dream, a simple dream.
Pure, untarnished, and uncomplex.
I woke in a wondrous state of euphoria.
Well, what was this dream of yours?
You may feel compelled to ask.
Was it full of lust and sinning,
Lips that meet, bodies entwined skin to skin?
Not this time, I'd answer,
For all that it would have been nice,
But this dream did not encompass these things
And rather glad am I that it did not.
Was it full of bravery and chivalry?
Did I charge in on a gleaming white horse?
Come to take you away from misery and loneliness,
And keep you secure by my side the remainder of our lives through?
Alas, neither was that the direction
My dreams chose to wander last night.
The most common time those thoughts bubble up
Is when I look into your eyes.
So then what role did I play?
You bray impatiently to me.
If not the errant knight or passionate lover,
What other character could I be?
I smile at you, my gaze full of love,
And answer your query with one of my own.
What need have I to dream of lovers and knights
When all I need to do is think of you?
Last night's dream was whimsical and cute
Filled with excitement, thrill, and happiness.
I awoke full of joy and delight,
My heart beating a tattoo in my chest.
I had told you that I was going to a party,
Being held not too far from your home.
Though the drive to me lasted o'er an hour,
Desperation and desire sent you flying down the road.
You entered the party with haste,
Searching me out frantically.
Like a fairytale, our eyes met from across the room,
And I stared to be sure it was you.
My heart already knew that it was,
And directed my feet to where you stood.
A silly, crazed grin crossed my face,
So excited was I that you came.
When our fingers touched, they never stopped moving,
Running all over your face.
Then I kissed you fervently, my lips meeting yours,
While you crushed me close.
Giggling like naughty schoolchildren, we ran
Straight to your car parked outside.
Fingers entwined like our hearts,
We slid in and drove off into the night.
We spent all night talking,
Next to a bonfire we lit in a field.
Cuddling close, whispering like lovers,
Teasing and sharing and loving and laughing.
If a dream is a wish that a heart makes,
I surely hope that this one comes true.
For there's nothing in this world I'd like more,
Than to watch the sun come up while snuggling with you.
