Listening to you breathe in the dark
while the wind howls from beyond the
living room picture window; I knew I
should’ve fixed the damn thing sooner.
Alcohol warms us up, though, so we
don’t have to leave just yet.

A slow record in the player, sweet
melodies and serenades cycling on
and on and on.

Counting the Caribou in my change
(the shit you found underneath the
sofa when you cleaned today) and
thinking about all the things I could
buy for you with $3.25.

A slow record in the player, sweet
melodies and serenades cycling on
and on and on.

Snow falls and the wind keeps on
howling, and we watch it from safely
behind our semi-broken living room
window. Coins forgotten on a side table,
and liquor long finished. All that’s left
is you and me and the record.

Alone at last, I turn off the light as
the voice sings: it’s been a long time
running, it’s been a long time coming.
It’s well worth the wait.

this pleasantly darkish poetic sketch. Sometime this evening when the mood will be better I'll certainly highlight this one in the New Poetry Reviews. Thanks.
