Last night a friend from London called me
I couldn’t help but feel it was a sign
He told me with great relish he’d been working
To make sure a return would work out fine

*****

He detailed how he’d spoken to his bosses
And organised not just one job, but two
The first an admin post within his hostel
The other doorwork, a job he knew I’d do

*****

His voice was filled with anticipation
As if he knew right then that I would come
It felt to me as if he was saying
Say yes, chocolate pigeon, you'll have fun!

*****

I felt elated, but still I must consider
The life I’ve forged here, the job I want to get
The thought of going fills me with excitement
But can I leave this world behind and just forget?

*****

So I sit quietly, evaluating choices
The money issue, the family, the career
These are the factors that will decide my short-term future
Will I be stuck here, or travelling over there?
