LOVE ON A SUMMER NIGHT
Lie beside me in short grass,
in a place where the flat glare of artificial light
can not reach us.
We shall be one with the night,
feel the wind slide along our exposed skin
the way the cool river held us,
kept us from the harm of the noon sun.
Let your breasts rise like round hillocks
from the curving plain of your chest,
reach into the dark of the night sky,
as each nipple points at its own constellation.
Let me travel by mouth the paths
from your palms to your exposed throat,
taste the tang of your tender flesh.
I will bless each of your toes with my breath,
caress your legs with the warmth of my eyes.
Raise up your knees in prayer,
open wide the gate to the midnight garden.
My face shall eclipse the fullness of the moon,
my strength seek to restrain your pulsing heart.
Together we will take flight.
