silently in nighttime,
when all should be asleep,
vivid through the darkness
I reach to hold her shape,
as falling from me--
no longer lovers--
I let the tears escape:
outside,
bright flashes bring a sudden rain,
welcome sounds of wetness falling,
as if the downpour and the thunder
voice the cry I had not uttered;
embraced, I find my rest,
lulled by heaven's rhythm
that holds me steady
as my heart wells up in pain.
