Were like caverns that extended into the earth
A darkness rimmed in warmth
That invited me into
A place I couldn’t escape.
Your lips
Were soft, like clouds in the sky
Something that I could love
Could know, intimately,
But never claim as mine.
Your hair
Had a richness worth more than gold,
I wanted to bury my fingers in it,
This part of yourself you didn’t like,
To tell you all of you was precious.
Your arms
Held me closer than I held my heart
And when I gave it to you,
Your embrace made me feel
Like the void between stars was alive
Our love
Was so complete I thought our time
Might end that moment, or last forever,
That I could live off the smell
Of your hair, or the heat from your pulse
Our afterglow
Filled me with joy, and I smiled
So wide it cracked, and all my sorrows
Spilt free, onto the floor, where we
Could ignore them, for a little while.
Our goodbye’s
Were so many I never thought
That they had any more meaning,
Then a grain of sand on a beach,
Until a wave washed them all away.
And my soul
Once, a blinding supernova,
Has wasted itself down
To a single flame that flickers
When your ghost breathes.
