Where shopping halts, hypnotic
tile patterns joyful moiré red blue chunks,
inside under foot
pants encircle ankles prevent
rushing back to spend,
I’m tempted to hide all day
shifting across booths
water comes and goes
auto flush technology
what else
Barnes & Noble Restroom
Down on one, wide spread books
with brown tiles, no pattern,
very “non”
our thoughts are our own
no architect knew how we would
or should think
Days Inn Bathroom
wallpaper in our laps,
shower/flush wars,
scrubbed to death
worn clean through to Godliness
beyond mention nearby sex
short, not so sweet at all
Fitzgerald Theater Restroom
small for so many
glass block
whisper quiet
intent, reason, compassion
meditative plumb
sublime contemplation
with tongues in cheeks

This is perfect. Perfect.
I already missed the first star tonight. What can I wish on to be able to see the world like this and then be able to write about it.
Well chosen words as expected, and the vignettes connect.
My favorite line is:
"worn clean through to Godliness"
A vast improvement over the only other bathroom poem that I can remember:
"He who writes on bathroom walls
rolls his shit in little balls.
He who reads these words of wit
eats those little balls of shit."
into the design and poetry of restrooms. An art in everyday necessity. A unique perspective into the things that we so often ignore. Very good.
