May you fly so high

Most beautiful and precious you are, you have now been set free.
I pray that you will fly so high, and then come back to me.
I am in tears of pride as I watch you climb and dive in flight,
but I'm so afraid that you will not come back to me one night.

I've been the weight on your wings for oh so many years.
I should have let you fly back then, and set aside my fears.
Forgive me for caging you in all those selfish ways.
And after you fly and soar up there come back to me and stay.

Let us fly together now, as mates, as lovers, as one.
Rest upon my back a while as we look down at our son.
When we return to our home, tired from flying so long.
Find safety and peace in my arms, for you they are so strong.

Your new found wings need to strengthen, your flight has just begun.
Never again will I be a weight on you, or on our son.
I set you free with love and hope that finally our love is ours.
Fly with me beyond the clouds, my love, we'll reach the stars.

Lovely message - more diary-entry-like than I prefer but still, I enjoy the intent. One thought: is it necessary to have a period after each line?
