It is a perfect arch of well-cut hedges
that leads you right along the twisted ways
and tortuous corridors up to the edges
or to the silent centre of the maze.
Here sunlight hardly enters; lightfall plays
no part in navigating it. They laid
a groundplan that will leave you in a daze
and haste in going in is soon put paid.
It seemed a game when down its lanes I strayed
and had no qualms about the course I steered...
But getting on I felt good fortune fade:
in turn the selfsame places reappeared
until I realised, worn and dismayed,
that I won't find my bearings without aid.

pelegrinoabout 9 years agoBeautiful rhyming scheme and form. I like that you don't finish it in 3 four line stanzas but you add another 2 lines at the end which can be used as an epode! (If one wants to view it that way)
The content fills my head with questions about the determination and self confidence in entering the maze where light is of no great relevance, but I like that at the end reliance on others for a solution is admitted.
