There was a time when
Measuring didn’t matter
Now I look back and find
I must account
For every piece of time
Pinch of memory
Scoop of blankness
In my past
But how…
How to quantify
Quality
How to solidify into
A number
My life…
But there is this need
In me
To say
There is value
There is meaning
And that this confection
That is my past
Was delicious and
Enjoyable
Intent existed
In every ounce
Of life lived
Of regret
That only gives that
Subtle flavor
Which makes a dish
Perfect
But the attempt
To measure this
Life
Fails
So I look ahead
I measure out a day
A week
And more
I measure myself
And come up short
