Meet me in the woods.

Walk down the old dirt road
To the bottom of the hill.
Turn toward the sun and step
Into the leaves that crunch
and shush dryly underfoot.
I'll be waiting there.

We'll walk, hand in hand,
Up the old logging trail
To that little cabin in the woods.
The air smells spicy, soft and green
Where the stream runs through
And the trees change to evergreens.

We can be together there, alone.
Away from demands of the children
And the crying of the telephone.
I can unbutton your shirt slowly,
Slide it off your shoulders
And let it drift to the floor.

Or, we could hurriedly undress
And tumble, laughing, onto the bunk,
Our fingers drifting and exploring
Over already familiar terrain.
I remember when you got that scar
and you know every freckle on my face.

We can lie there for a little while,
Whispering and laughing softly,
Reminding ourselves of love,
Of all the history we have shared and
Why we do the million little things
That make up our lives each and every day.
