Teach me, please
How it is you learned to be
Strong enough to hold your heart
Always under lock and key
Content to live in the moment
With whomever catches your eye
Never having to live up to promises
Because none were ever made
Vows are only made to be broken
In this day and age
So what's the point in believing
What anybody says

Did your heart get broken
One too many times
Or did you just get tired
Trying to always make things better
Only to receive
Absolutely nothing in return
For the love you gave

Did your heart get callused
To keep the pain at bay
Did you learn how to ignore
All the lies that they told
In a last ditch effort
To try and save yourself
Did your soul finally
Become numb
To almost everything

Did you cease to care
The harm you caused to those
Who dared to fall in love with you
To trample on their heart
Without a second thought
After all, thats what so many others
Had cruelly done to you
Have you become the person
Whom society
Has taught you how to be
