I went out for a walk at midnight
I was caught by trees and streetlights
and now there's music in my cold little room
filling up the space where you should be

it says:

I miss you, my dear
I'm cold without you and I'm sad to say
that for a little while I was happy without you
Wish I could say the same for the rest of the day

But I don't want to let go of the dreams we made
the smiles and the tears the laughter and pain
it's all right here, every day, sitting next to me
where you should be, but it's okay

We go out and play, and we dance and sing
we show the world we're still whole and happy
Sometimes we falter and the music skips
but we bow and they forgive us

Shaking our heads to clear the shadows
howling at the moon to clear our chests
so tight and fraught with regrets
We promised each other we wouldn't cry

And we're seeing our friends again
we aren't so twisted up about each other
we know we miss the nights where nothing
nothing, nothing else existed

But the world came crashing back
and we found ourselves a little worse off
so we picked ourselves up and stepped through the door
Hi there. How are you? You're beautiful, I'm in love

I know. Keep going, we're doing good.
