I need you to know that my heart was open even when my back was turned.
The memory of your face,
So still,
Is there when I blink.
My eyes won't stay closed in hopes that when they open your breath will draw in,
not rattle, exhaling toward the heavens.
My glazed over stare remains millions of miles away when I realize you're still not here.
So I beg for the rain to come,
And the drops against my skin may snap me back, The way your touch so often did.
