Mon Chanson
give me silence
and I shall perhaps, not harm another
yet it is harm that leaves the cracks for good
to peel the excellence from humanity
give me solitude
and I shall live in quiet
yet loneliness inhabits all quiet places
and I am afraid of Nothing
give me, the wandering shadow, peace
to have and live and be in nothingness
and I shall leave nothing un-
finished
nothing
for other people to see; my dirty laundry.
silence is pervasive
and even noise cannot deafen the inner voices
not even Chopin
or perhaps Stravinsky
and emptiness is an unsatisfying friend
perhaps
in the far- off climate
I shall find my love
that soft, small hand in mine
with hair caressing, small feathers and
eyes that sparkle, yet that need my love
and I too love them
the quiet does not sparkle
neither does darkness laugh
I shall make shadows whisper
and see the petals answer
one day I shall touch those two
sweet roses in a sea of cream
